• Pain Responses in Patients on Long-Term Opioid Therapy for Chronic Pain
Chronic Pain Research Study
The Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Translational Pain Research
is seeking healthy volunteers and patients with chronic pain for a research
study. The study is looking at the effect of opioid (narcotic) pain medicines
on pain sensation, threshold and tolerance. The study consists of one visit,
in which an interview, physical exam, lab work (urine test) and sensory
testing will be done. The testing (Quantitative Sensory Testing) is
noninvasive (no needles) and involves heat and cold stimulation. Estimated
time of the visit is 90 minutes. Compensation will be provided.
You may qualify if you are between the ages of 18-65 and:
1. have chronic pain, and have not taken narcotic pain
medications in the past month
OR
2. have chronic pain, and have been taking narcotic pain
medication for at least one month.
