- MODifiable Effectors of Renin system Activation: Treatment Evaluation (MODERATE)
Research Volunteers Needed
Men and women ages 18 and over who are overweight or obese but who do not have high blood pressure, diabetes, or kidney disease are being enrolled in a research study at Brigham and Women’s Hospital to study the effects of vitamin D and uric acid on hormones in the blood, blood flow to the kidneys, blood flow in the arm, and blood pressure. After a screening visit, the study requires two months of taking either vitamin D, a medicine to lower the body’s uric acid level, or a placebo. After the screening visit, there are two overnight inpatient hospitalizations during which blood flow to the kidney and through the arm will be measured, and you will also be asked wear a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours. There is an additional outpatient checkup mid-way through the study. Those that complete the study will receive $750.
